Director General of Police J.V. Ramudu on Tuesday said that a detailed report had been sent to the Centre, seeking financial assistance to relocate the Police Department headquarters to Andhra Pradesh, since the entire immovable infrastructure belonging to the united State had gone to the Telangana post-bifurcation.

Mr. Ramudu, who inaugurated a new barrack in Etcherla of Srikakulam district, told the media that the Centre had agreed to extend financial assistance in accordance with the AP State Reorganization Act. The DGP, along with IG Atul Singh, DIG P. Umapathi and Srikakulam SP A.S. Khan, also reviewed the law and order situation.

Referring to the upcoming police infrastructure in the new State, he said: “We are searching for suitable land in various cities including Visakhaptnam to establish our department offices, training centres and other institutions.” Answering to a query, the DGP said Maoist activity had drastically come down in the State including in the districts bordering Odisha. He promised to strengthen marine police stations, but indicated that the decision over setting up new police stations would be taken after getting the Central financial assistance.

He further said that top priority was accorded to control the unrest in industrial belts of North Andhra region, adding that the department had kept an eye on fake currency rackets and cyber crimes. Speaking about the reforms in the pipeline, the DGP said that the department had not yet taken any decision on weekly-off for police constables, while promising to increase the salaries of home guards.
