The annual brahmotsavam began with religious fervour and gaiety in Sri Bhadradri Seetharamaiah Swamy temple at Indiranagar here on Tuesday.
Temple priest performed ‘punyahavachanam, kalasa sthapana’ and performed Ganapati pooja. Large number of devotees participated as Vedic pundits performed Lakshminarayana hrudaya homam, Navagraha and nakshatra homam, Sudarshan and Ayushu homam, manyu sooktha homam and sarpasooktha homam in the temple.
Devotees, including large number of women recited Vishnu Sahasranamam and Seetharama Swamy Sahasranamavali on Tuesday morning and evening. Temple committee member Yeturu Ramachandra Reddy and wife Yeturu Lakshmi Devi made arrangements for the Brahmotsavams. Special poojas were performed and vadapappu and paanakam were distributed among devotees in Sri Rama Swamy temples at Housing Board, Nagarajupet and other temples. Bhajans were organised in the evening. The Sri Rama and Sri Anjaneya Swamy temples were colourfully illuminated with serial lighting.
Devotional fervour gripped the people in Chittoor with people providing jaggery juice (panakam) to the devotees at the ancient Kodandarama Swamy temple at Ramar Street. In the morning, abhishekam was performed.
Heavy crowds of devotees were reported at Kodandarama Swamy temple in Piler. The temples at Somala, Rayalapeta, Nimmanapalle and Madanapalle saw the celestial marriage of Lord Rama and Sita Devi, followed by rendering of harikathas and skits depicting the birth of Lord Rama. In V. Kota, people took part in the Kumbabhishekam ritual at the local Rama temple. The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) had extended its services to several temples in the form of deputing the teams from the Hindu Dharma Prachara Parishad to conduct devotional programmes.
Tirupati: The temple city reverberated with ‘Rama Namam’ on the auspicious ‘Srirama Navami’. “Asthanam”, the temple court, was observed at the TTD’s Sri Kodandarama temple, where ‘Snapana Tirumanjanam’ (celestial bath) was performed by the priests to the processional deities with a rich aromatic mixture containing sandal paste, rose water etc. A pocket book on the history of the temple, authored by Julakanti Balasubramanyam, was released by the Joint Executive Officer (Tirupati) Pola Bhaskar.
