Cyberabad police have on Tuesday registered a case against a journalist and a police officer in connection with the alleged leakage of call data records of a woman. The case was registered under different provisions of the Indian Penal Code, Information Technology Act, Indian Telegraph Act and Official Secrets Act.
The call data records of the complainant Chandrabala Vasireddy were published in the vernacular daily Sakshi on Thursday last alleging that she was in touch with a media organisation head and a CBI officer probing the cases against the newspaper owner and Kadapa MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, who is currently in judicial custody.
Following a complaint from Ms. Vasireddy, the Cyber Crime station of Cyberabad Commissionerate registered a case against Sakshi reporter K. Yadagiri Reddy and Inspector M. Srinivasa Rao of Nacharam police station.
The case was registered under sections 120 (B) r/w 505 (ii) and 509 IPC, Sec 66 & 72 of Information Technology Act 2000, Sec 24 of Indian Telegraph Act 1885 and Sec (5) of Official Secrets Act 1923, a press release from the commissionerate said on Tuesday.

I agree with you up to some extent, but why didn't the reporter tried through RTI (Right to information), why did he tried to get the call list illegally, and what is the proof that all the numbers shown in the list are correct ? one that is published is not an official copy from the provider.
why there is no action against CBI JD , who is leaking the information to some select media persons ? CBI has lied before the court that they are not leaking any information . but the call data of CBI JD proves that he is leaking the information. if an investigative journalist acquires some information why he should be punished ? what is the purpose of Right to Information act ? is the act not intended to bring out facts relating to govt functioning ? if it is so CBI is also answarable to public for the lies it tells before the court and the journalist who has exposed these lies should not be punished.
