Carnatic singer siblings Anahita and Apoorva Ravindran from Chennai were in full flow as they sang select compositions of, among others, saint-composers Annamayya and Thyagaraja here.
The Sri Chennakeshava swamy temple set the right ambiance for the graded artistes of the AIR to exhibit their immense talent and keep spell-bound both connoisseurs of art as well as laymen during the music concert here late on Sunday organised as part of the annual Brahmotsavam.
The siblings, who have performed for more than 10 years now both within the country and abroad, aim to mature as full time professionals, says Anahita, who has been the lead singer for Bharatanatyam dance programme of noted yesteryear actor Vyjayanthimala.
The sisters, who had come out with Audio CD ‘Nalaya Nakshatrangal’, are keen to popularise Thiruvasagam and Thevaram lyrics in Tamil in praise of Lord Siva, they say.
They recall their outstanding performance at the Cleveland Thyagaraja Festival that provided them an opportunity to perform along with legendary kathak exponent Pandit Birju Maharaj.
The sisters were initially trained in music by their grandmother Shanthi Jayaraman and their skills were further honed by Chitravina N Ravikiran, who spotted their musical talents and tapped them fully.
