A painting show by noted artist Ramchand, aptly named ‘Year Long Panel’, opened at the Trishnaa Art Gallery at Tarakarama Nagar, Madhurawada at 9 hours 9 minutes and 9 seconds on Wednesday (09/09/09). Ramchand produced 27 masterpieces depicting ‘time’ in a yearlong effort.
He used a perfect blend of oil colours and putty to convey time in ‘circles’ depicting minutes, hours and days, sunrise and sunset. A galloping horse in the backdrop signifies that time doesn’t wait for anybody.
The highlight of the show is the ‘Year Long Panel’ that captures on canvas the important events that occurred during the last 365 days ending on 09/09/09. The Big Bang experiment, Gandhi Jayanthi, Durga Puja celebrations, Chandrayaan, Christmas, welcoming 2009, Sankranti, Kite festival, general elections, Oscar award to A.R. Rehaman, total solar eclipse on July 22, Janmastami, Independence Day, Ganesh Chaturthi, death of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy in a chopper crash and Teacher’s Day takes one through the major events that occurred during the year. He completed the panel on Wednesday depicting a boy, woman and man in the form of 9, 9 and 9.
“It was exactly on 08/08/08 that I opened my own gallery ‘Trishna’ and organised an exhibition ‘Rainbow’. After that I planned to exploit the 09/09/09 by depicting the major events during the 365 days concluding with that day. I had started my work on 09/09/08,” Ramchand said.
Riot of colour
The other paintings on display include: seven paintings on each day of the week capturing their significance with the planet and the God associated with it, depicting the four seasons in the form of four different colourful collages, sunrise and sunset symbolising a woman and the 12 months of the Telugu calendar and their significance.
Ramchand has done his BFA from Andhra University during 1978-83. He had received training under noted painters like Antyakula Pydiraju, Lakshmayya Choudhary and Jogi Jagannadham and won several regional and national awards.
The exhibition-cum-sale will be on till September 13.
