armers in the Amaravati capital region are demanding that they be shown maps delineating the altered boundaries of their villages by the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA). And they want to be permitted to build up to eight floors in the developed plots promised to them for having contributed their land to the Land Pooling Scheme (LPS).
At a meeting with a carefully picked group of farmers on Thursday, Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana promised that the exercise of allotting compensatory plots – residential and commercial – to LPS contributors would be completed by the end of December. CRDA commissioner N. Srikanth was not present at the meeting.
“We asked CRDA to give the farmers plots of various sizes: 1,000 sq yards, 700 sq yards and 500 sq yards. We also demanded that they be given permission to construct high-rise buildings in the plots,” Bellamkonda Narasimha Rao, a TDP leader from Venkatapalem told The Hindu on Friday.
Construction activity has spurted in the capital region in anticipation of LPS allotments. High-rise constructions have begun in Thullur and other villages where landowners have sold a part of their holdings.
Uncertain that they will be given their compensatory plots in or near their present villages, many farmers have desisted from signing Form 9.18, which is a formal request from them for allotment of developed plots. CRDA records show that though 33,000 acres of land have been offered to the LPS, agreements conferring irrevocable rights on the Government have been signed only for 27,500 acres. Some farmers still have reservations whether the CRDA will come good on its assurances.
The CRDA has tried to win over the doubting farmers with visions of four high-speed roads connecting the nine urban purpose-defined clusters included in the master plan for Amaravati. These roads will be 200 ft wide and built with high-end technology.
As depicted in the plan, these roads will connect Manipal Hospital and Pedamadduru (57 km), Venkatapalem and NRI Hospital, NRI Hospital and Ananthavaram, Jupudi and Borupalem and Gollapudi and Ananthavaram.
Exercise of allotting compensatory plots – residential and commercial – to LPS contributors will be completed by the end of December.
