Filing of nominations for elections to the post of Gram Panchayat sarpanch and ward members was more orderly on Saturday though political parties and individual aspirants took out rallies during the day. Election authorities enforced the Model Code of Conduct more strictly this time.

Matter of prestige

Important political leaders participated in rallies at given centres in favour of candidates supported by their respective parties. At many places, the sarpanch election has become a matter of prestige for the parties.

Adilabad MLA, Jogu Ramanna, participated in a rally at Karanji in Jainad mandal while District Congress Committee president, C. Ramchander Reddy, walked to the nomination centre with party candidates at Mavala Gram Panchayat near Adilabad town. Individual aspirants too made a beeline for the centres, this being the last day for nominations.
