Cabinet re-jig after Assembly session?

May 28, 2013 01:25 am | Updated November 16, 2021 08:22 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy may effect a cabinet expansion or re-shuffle only after the conclusion of the Assembly session in June last week.

Mr. Reddy, who is visiting New Delhi to attend a meeting of the Planning Commission on May 30, may hold discussions with the central leaders on the course of action after the resignation of Ministers Sabitha Indra Reddy and Dharmana Prasada Rao on Sunday. He is temporarily holding additional charge of the portfolios of Home and Roads & Buildings.

He is keen on undertaking an expansion or at least a re-shuffle of portfolios but may prefer to carry out the exercise after the budget session. One reason for his anxiety is to tackle the dissident activity. Two Ministers D. L. Ravindra Reddy and C. Ramachandariah have been constantly criticising him and giving fillip to dissident activity.

Probables

Mr. Reddy does not want to unsettle things before the Assembly session.

The Ministers assigned new subjects may be uncomfortable in answering questions from the Opposition parties

If, however, he goes for the re-jig before the resumption of the Assembly on June 10, there are chances of some Ministers from Telangana feeling disappointed for not bagging the coveted Home portfolio. Deputy Chief Minister C. Damodar Raj Narasimha is keen on the post, but leaders say the Chief Minister may prefer to entrust the portfolio to one of his loyalists like D. Sridhar Babu, D. K. Aruna and Sunitha Laxma Reddy.
