Byreddy surfaces after hiatus

Former MLA and Rayalaseema Parirakshana Samithi president Byreddy Rajasekhar Reddy finally surfaced after going underground for more than six months. He, along with his father and former Minister Byreddy Seshasayana Reddy and another close kin, are accused of murdering Nandikotkur Market Committee vice-chief T. Saieswarudu in April last ahead of general elections. He was freed on bail only a few days ago after he surrendered before the court.

Zion school case accused get bail

Zion High School founder K. Rajarathnam Isaac, an accused in the sensational murder and burial of his son Krupakar Isaac and four of his family members, was released on bail on health grounds. The court ordered his bail on furnishing a deposit of Rs. 1 lakh and two sureties and he proceeded to Chennai for treatment. Two other accused in the case Ramanji Naik and Ratnakar Reddy were also granted conditional bail.

Pachyderm menace

Elephant menace was at its peak in Kuppam last week. On Friday night, a herd of 32 pachyderms, split in three groups, came close to human habitations, triggering panic among villagers who fled to the nearby hillocks for safety. The Forest Department pleads helplessness citing acute shortage of manpower.

Govt. blamed over farmers’ suicides

Citing growing incidences of farmers’ suicides in the district, CPI national leader K Narayana attributed it to the failure of State government in implementing the farm loan waiver scheme. At a recent rally and protest in Anantapur, Mr. Narayana launched a scathing attack on the government before courting arrest. Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president N. Raghuveera Reddy also blamed the government for the farmer suicides in the district.

Major reshuffle

Chittoor district witnessed a series of transfers of top officials in the Medical and Health Department. The Nellore District Medical & Health Officer Koteswaramma has assumed charge as Medical and Health Officer of Chittoor district while the incumbent DM&HO N. Dasaradha Ramaiah has been posted as Zonal Malaria Officer in Kadapa.
