Budding entrepreneurs give shape to their ideas

‘Melon Studios’ emerged from a casual talk between friends

Translating inspiration into reality seems to be the natural ability of youngsters today. While some follow individual paths to realise their dream, others collaborate with their associates, who share a collective vision of their venture. Following the latter, a group of young entrepreneurs in the temple city began a start-up company with the sole aim of tapping the vast potential of application development and promo-based advertising.

The start-up ‘Melon Studios,’ emerged as an offshoot from a casual talk between friends and was initially established as a game studio. Later, the services have been extended to brand development, promotional videos, logo and website designing. One look at their swanky website highlights their promise of ‘creating genuine and unique concepts from others.’

The team consists of seven budding software engineers – Y. Sai Prakash (founder and project lead), V. Sai Mohini (co-founder and game designer), S. Srivatsan (Web developer), P. Kishore (animator), V. Gowtham (game tester), T. Usha Priyanka (artist) and P. Muni Rajesh (coder), who treat inspiration as a ‘mystical entity.’

Speaking to The Hindu , Mr. Sai Prakash recollected the origin behind establishing the game development studio. “During our internship at Hyderabad, we thought of promoting applications (mobile and computer) through games instead of advertisements. This snowballed into a larger idea and we started developing entertainment-based games before moving on to other avenues,” he added.

The games and applications developed by Melon Studios are made using the latest HTML5 technologies and standards. “Using HTML5 helps us to optimize our work across a variety of devices and platforms as they are not interdependent,” they maintained.

Melon Studios is currently working on their maiden project for Studio Torque, a Hyderabad-based game development company which deals with design, development and training for web based applications. The team will be designing an 80-level game titled 'Project Poo-Poo', aimed at bringing an awareness about obesity among people by keeping a track on their calorie count. Users have to grab food in every level and maintain a specific amount to reach the next stage.

‘Your Companion’

Another application, under the development process, envisaged by the start-up aims to bridge the gap in existing human interactions by creating a virtual companion for the users. The app interacts with the user based on text or speech-based interaction including reading the facial expressions, through kinetic sensors. It reads the mood of the user and strikes up a conversation accordingly.
