Textile showrooms in Srikakulam district are registering roaring business in the festival season despite stiff competition from markets of Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam which are geographically very close to the district.
Sources say Srikakulam traders changed their strategy and concentrated on ambience of showrooms and branded dress material. Business activity is expected to be 35 per cent more this time. As many as 15 new showrooms were established in the last three months in Srikakulam town.
Normally, the showrooms could do little business as majority of the people preferred to do their festival shopping in nearby towns where dresses are said to be available at an affordable rate. Varieties and new arrivals in Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam markets used to attract Srikakulam consumers. Exclusive shopping market -- Balaji Complex -- has become a major boon for Vizianagaram traders who could entice business from Srikakulam district and Odisha. Some customers said that an exclusive textile market was the need of the hour to retain business in Srikakulam. “We can save a lot of time if all the textile showrooms are located under one roof. The government and traders should look into the issue,” said B. Ramachandra Rao of.Visakha-A colony.
