Krishna Collector Ahmed Babu on Wednesday directed to the police to bring the sand reaches on the Krishna river bed under the CCTV camera surveillance to prevent the alleged involvement of sand mafia in influencing the sale of sand by the licensee.
Addressing the officials at the District Level Sand Committee meet, Mr. Babu asked them to keep him updated about the sale of sand on a daily basis through SMSes.
He also spoke to the staff deployed at the sand reaches over phone and enquired about the hurdles they were facing at the filed level to clear the pending orders for supply of the sand.
“The police will conduct raids on strategic areas where the functioning of sand mafia is said to be rampant. The police will replace the Mining Department’s vigilance team at the field level,” said Mr. Babu. Members of the Krishna District Level Sand Committee including Additional Joint Collector B.L. Chennakesava Rao, Mining Department Assistant Director B. Ramachandra Rao and Groundwater Department Deputy Director A. Vara Prasada Rao were also present.
