Dr.B.R.Ambedkar University planned to take up series of new initiatives to improve its financial strength and reputation with the support of Andhra Pradesh government and University Grants Commission (UGC). As a first step, it planned to meet the norms of the Commission to get additional funding to take up intensive research activity. The Commission sanctions around ₹ 3 crore every year if the universities meet its rules and regulations. UGC has framed stringent rules to sanction grant under Section-12B to the universities which have six full-fledged departments. It means each department should have sanctioned posts including one professor, two associate professors and four assistant professors. Although Ambedkar University has 17 departments none of them has a full-fledged faculty due to recruitment ban.

The University In-charge Vice-Chancellor G.Prasada Rao who is regular V-C of Andhra University approached the UGC authorities for sanctioning of funds. He held talks with UGC Joint Secretary Surendra Singh who in-turn suggested him to submit the action plan to meet the norms. Dr.Prasada Rao assured to fill up 48 sanctioned posts within no time after taking prior permission from Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education. He would also request Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) to conduct exams for the necessary posts.

“Apart from trying to get funding from UGC, we will plan to enhance our financial resources by starting new courses. We are going to establish new engineering college from next academic year 2017-18,” said Dr.Prasada Rao while speaking to The Hindu . “The ten-year-old University will hold its first-ever convocation on Saturday. It would certainly enhance the reputation of the institution,” he added.

According to him, the authorities would establish full-fledged laboratories for all the departments very soon. Hostels will be modernized to improve their ambiance. A team from Kadiyam of East Godavari district will develop gardens and improve greenery in the entire campus. Andhra Bank was requested to establish its branch within the campus. Bio-metric system will be made mandatory for attendance.

All the affiliated colleges will be asked to meet the academic standards set by the institution. A periodical inspection will be done in all 140 colleges located in different places of Srikakulam district.
