Pradesh Congress Committee chief Botcha Satyanarayana has backed the decision taken by Speaker Nadendla Manohar in disqualifying 15 Congress and TDP MLAs, who had defied their respective party whips during the no confidence motion in March this year.

Mr. Satyanarayana, who visited Renuka Yellamma jatara in Patancheru in Medak district on Sunday said that due procedure was followed by the Speaker while considering the disqualification petitions against the rebel MLAs. “He has taken a decision only after following due procedure and due diligence,” he said.

Chief Whip Gandra Venkataramana Reddy at another press conference justified the Speaker’s decision. He said YSR Congress Party has no faith in legislature and was openly encouraging defections. He appealed to the people of constituencies where the elected representatives had switched sides to think twice before voting for the same person. He said the party was ready to face no confidence motion as it has the necessary numbers to defeat such move.

Peddireddy cries foul

Tirupati Staff Reporter adds: Former Minister and senior YSR Congress Party leader Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy (Punganur) has accused the ruling Congress and the opposition Telugu Desam Party of being hand-in-glove to eliminate the rebel legislators in both the parties, thus trying to undermine the strength of the YSR Congress Party.

At a hurriedly-convened press conference , he charged the Speaker’s office of taking its own time to disqualify the members in order to save the Government from an otherwise-imminent fall. The rebel MLAs will not be cowed down by such acts and we are ready to settle the issue in the people’s court, he said.

Dwarampudi thanks Speaker

Kakinada Staff Reporter adds: Thanking the Speaker for disqualifying him, Dwarampudi Chandrasekhar Reddy said that . “The disqualification is nothing but another ploy of the ruling Congress and the Opposition to divert the attention of the people from pressing issues. I am happy to be disqualified,” he said.
