Bomb scare at Kuppam railway station

March 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - CHITTOOR:

A bomb scare created panic at the Kuppam railway station on Sunday night, with passengers from the Chennai-Bangalore Lalbagh Express rushing out of the train and running helter-skelter. Being a Sunday, the railway station was jam-packed with passengers. As the train moved slowly, some passengers pulled the chain to facilitate others to board the train. When it was done for the second time at the outer point, the gas-vacuum pipe got snapped owing to pressure, and burst, producing a loud noise. It led to a rumour that somebody had planted a bomb in the compartment. Passengers jumped off the train in panic. The commotion lasted for half-an-hour, before the cause was detected and rectified by the engine crew. The train resumed its journey later.
