Body of student found in sea

: The body of a 20-year-old engineering student, identified as Gudisa Surekha of Veerullapadu in Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh, was found floating in the sea near Thumba on Saturday morning.

According to the police, the body of Surekha, an Avionics student at the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) located at Valiyamala, was noticed by fishermen at 8.45 a.m. a couple of nautical miles off the Thumba shore.

They pushed the body towards the beach and alerted the local coastal vigil committee and the police.

According to R. Jayasanil, sub-inspector, Thumba, Surekha had got her second semester results on Friday and was reportedly depressed as she had failed in one paper. However, there were no witnesses who saw her leaving the hostel on Friday night. Neither had she spoken to anyone about any issues that may have been troubling her.

“The inquest revealed no external injuries. We are waiting for a report of the autopsy, which will be conducted at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital on Sunday after her relatives arrive.

According to information gathered by the police, Surekha is the daughter of Jayaraju of SC Colony, Veerullapadu in Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh.

The family has been informed and they are expected to reach here on Saturday night.

Body shifted to morgue

The body has been shifted to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital morgue.
