Bodo militant’s arrest reveals forged SIM card racket

January 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - Bengaluru:

The arrest of an alleged Bodo militant in the city on Monday seems to have exposed a shocking availability of ‘ready-to-call’ forged SIM cards with fake names and addresses in the city.

Case filed against Vodafone

City police have now registered a case against telecom service provider Vodafone, after revelations by alleged militant Sanju Bordoloi that he easily acquired a ready-to-use fake SIM card, with a forged name and address. The police have also arrested seven peresons from a retail outlet in Electronics City for selling the SIM card.

‘Accused in ethnic clashes’

Accused in ethnic clashes in Assam, Bordoloi has told the police that he got the SIM card for just Rs. 200, according to officials. What’s worse is that while it takes 48 hours for any such SIM to be activated, in this case, it was ‘pre-activated’ and was ready to use for the alleged militant the moment he purchased it.
