The bodies of six persons killed in the Seshachalam forests by Andhra Pradesh police last week await judicial intervention, if ever, for conducting of fresh autopsy.
They are preserved in the Government Tiruvannamalai Medical College Hospital mortuary here.
Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) advocate K. Balu approached the Madras High Court seeking order for fresh autopsy on behalf of the six bereaved families. However, the court asked them to approach the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
Meanwhile, Muniyammal, wife of Sasikumar, one of the deceased in the incident, filed a complaint in Chandragiri police station in Andhra Pradesh, under whose purview the encounter site comes. Members from the families of 18 other deceased accompanied her.
Mr. Balu and other PMK functionaries facilitated this. Mr. Balu told The Hindu , “We shared the copy of the complaint and Community Service Register (CSR) copy with advocate Harikumar, who appears on behalf of AP-based activist Chandrasekar, who is fighting the case in AP.
Mr. Harikumar presented them before the court on Monday. On seeing the petition copy, Justice Kalyan Singh added Muniyammal as a party in the case. Hence when the case comes up before the court on Wednesday it can be argued seeking order for fresh autopsy and we need not file a separate case for it.” Hence it is not clear now, how many days will it take before the order could come, if ever, for fresh autopsy deciding the fate of bodies preserved in GTMCH. Sources said that mortuary with cold storage can store up to 24 bodies and 12 more bodies could be stored in anatomy department.
