Booth has been allotted for Tummileru for the benefit of 300 voters
Boats will be pressed into service to carry polling personnel and material to Tummileru, a riverside village in V R Puram mandal during the ensuing general elections slated for April 30.
A polling booth has been allotted for Tummileru to enable more than 300 voters of four island settlements inhabited by Konda Reddi Adivasis to exercise their franchise. Tummileru gram panchayat falls under the ST reserved Bhadrachalam Assembly segment.
Although the strength of the voters in the four tribal hamlets is below 400, the election authorities have decided to set up a polling booth at Tummileru exclusively for the benefit of the voters of Kolluru, Gondhuru, Kondepudi and Tummileru.
The island habitations including Tummileru witnessed flood fury for a few weeks during the last rainy season.
Meanwhile, the election officials concerned have drawn up an action plan to ensure smooth conduct of the general elections in the remote tribal pockets in Bhadrachalam division.
“Boats will be deployed to ferry the election staff and polling material from Pochavaram to Tummileru in V R Puram mandal during the coming general elections, said K Venkateshwarlu, Revenue Divisional Officer, Bhadrachalam. There are a total of 390 voters in the four island habitations. The voters of these settlements can reach Tummileru in service boats and cast their votes, he said.
