The BJP MLA of Kampli in Karnataka, T.H. Suresh Babu, was arrested here on Monday by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in the bail scam of former Minister Gali Janardhan Reddy.
Suresh Babu, an accused in the case who was served notice by ACB to appear before it for questioning, had visited the office of an advocate for consultations along with Bellary MP Shanta and Raichur MLA Sanna Phakirappa when he was picked up. He will be produced in the court on Tuesday, a senior ACB official said.
The ACB had charged Suresh Babu, Janardhan Reddy’s brother and Bellary MLA Somashekhar Reddy and a relative of the latter Dasaratha Rami Reddy with negotiating two deals simultaneously with district judges to secure the bail for the former Minister. Finally, they cancelled one deal and opted the other one for Rs. 20 crore which was, however, not released in full insisting that they would do so only after the bail was confirmed by the High Court.
The MLAs and Dasaratha Rami Reddy reportedly promised Rs. 100 crore to the judges who were ditched in the process of getting the bail. The confession report of one of these judges K. Lakshmi Narasimha Rao said a conduit Ravi Suryaprakash Babu was in touch with him at the instance of Suresh Babu who was a nephew of former Minister B. Sriramulu.
Meanwhile, a court on Monday granted five day police custody of Dasaratha Rami Reddy to ACB for interrogation. T. Pattabhirama Rao, the judge who granted bail, filed his second bail petition after the earlier one was rejected. The arrest of Suresh Babu coincided with a court posting for hearing the anticipatory bail petition of him and Somashekhar Reddy on August 1.
