BJP denies role in attack on Dalits

August 11, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 10:04 am IST - KAKINADA:

Making it clear that the BJP and the RSS had no role in the attack on Dalits at Sudapalem, president of the BJP’s East Godavari district unit Y. Malakondaiah on Wednesday demanded that the guilty be booked and punished as per law. Lambasting the Congress and the Left parties for holding the BJP and the RSS responsible for the attack, he said that it was unfortunate that these parties were trying to gain political mileage. “Of late, the BJP is getting closer to Dalits, which is making the Congress and the Left parties restless,” he said.

Deplorable: HRS

Special Correspondent in Rajamahendravaram writes: The Human Rights Society (HRS) has condemned the incident. In a statement, its State convener Yugandhar Reddy said that the issue would be taken to the notice of the NHRC.

Meanwhile it was learnt that State SC/ST Commission chairman Karem Sivaji would reach Kakinada on Thursday and proceed to Sudapalem. Later, he would visit Amalapuram and interact with the injured Dalits.

Tirupati Staff Reporter writes: Expressing dissent, Mr. Sivaji said that the perpetrators of violence would be punished severely.

He was interacting with the media on the first day of his three-day tour of Chittoor district.
