The Andhra Pradesh unit of BJP on Thursday appealed to the Centre to release Rs 10,000 crore for taking up relief and rehabilitation works in the flood-hit areas.
A delegation of the state BJP led by its chief Bandaru Dattatreya submitted a memorandum to the officials of a Central team here, which visited the flood-affected areas to assess the damage.
Over 18 lakh families have been hit by the recent floods in the state. And, 565 villages in 83 mandals spread over five districts have been severely affected, the party said in the memorandum.
Thousands of families have lost everything in floods, and even after receding of flood water, most of the houses are inhabitable, it said, adding there was a need to rehabilitate weavers and farmers.
In the worst affected Kurnool town alone, 83 per cent of three lakh population have lost everything. Over 25,000 quintals of groundnut got completely destroyed in the Kunrool district.
The crops like sugarcane, turmeric, onion, cotton, chillies, and paddy suffered immense losses.
The BJP requested the Union Government to announce special packages for farmers, artisans and weavers.
