Hereafter, it will not be easy to bunk classes, thanks to a proposal for the introduction of biometric access system for all college students from this academic year. As many as 120 colleges, including Degree, Post-Graduation, Law and Pharmacy, will have to introduce biometric attendance from 2016-17 as the government is keen on monitoring the studies of the students both in private and government institutions. It is observed that many students are not studying seriously though the government is spending a huge amount on fee reimbursement and scholarships.
The government allocates around Rs.10 crore for welfare activities. However, many students could not clear their exams and improve their standards. Many students skip classes but ‘manage’ their attendance with the help of their friends and classmates.
Installation of equipment
Following the directive from the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education, Ambedkar University in-charge Vice-Chancellor Miriyala Chandraiah and Registrar Gunta Tulasi Rao discussed the issue with the college managements and asked them to introduce the system from July-August as the tenders are going to be called for the installation of equipment.
Mr. Tulasi Rao told The Hindu that the new system would streamline the attendance and make students punctual Meanwhile, the university announced introduction of journalism diploma course from 2016-17 academic year. As many as 40 students can join the one-year course. The university management is hopeful that all the seats will be filled up as students are keen to pursue the course which would offer jobs in the field of media.
