The A.P-Capital Region Development Authority (AP-CRDA) is in the process of awarding trunk infrastructure work in Amaravati costing approximately ₹4,595 crore in 17 villages where land was given for construction of the capital city under the pooling scheme.

Bids have been called separately for development, estimating for investigation, designing and constructing roads, drains, culverts, water supply, sewerage, sewage treatment plants, utility ducts for power and ICT, re-use waterlines and raising avenue plantations at Anantavaram, Inavolu, Kondamarajupalem, Krishnayapalem, Kuragallu, Lingayapalem, Malkapuram, Mandadam, Navuluru, Nidamarru, Nelapadu, Pichukalapalem, Sakhamuru, Thullur, Uddandarayunipalem, Velagapudi and Venkatapalem.

The successful bidders will have to undertake performance-based operation and maintenance of the infrastructure for a period of 10 years on hybrid annuity basis.

The tenders will come up for evaluation over the next two months after which the works are likely to commence setting the stage for the creation of the LPS infrastructure.

The government attached due priority to the creation of amenities in the LPS villages as part of its commitment to develop the farmers’ habitations in recognition of their valuable contribution to the construction of the capital city.

Hybrid model

According to official sources, the CRDA had targeted to provide trunk infrastructure in the LPS layouts within three years of the allotment of returnable plots, which has almost been completed.

The total LPS area of nearly 16,300 acres has been divided into 10 zones and under the hybrid annuity model, which has been successfully implemented in various projects of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), 51% investment will be made by the private developers.

Construction of underground ducts for utilities like power and optic fibre cables is the most important component of the trunk infrastructure as the government intends to put in place disaster-proof facilities learning a lesson from the havoc cyclone Hudhud had caused in Visakhapatnam.

Avenue plantations are aimed at bringing down the temperatures in the capital region significantly and keep pollution under check.
