AP Brahmin Welfare Corporation (APBWC) chairman Vemuri Anand Surya has alleged that the followers of former chairman of the corporation were deliberately resorting to mudslinging to tarnish the image of the organisation. There is no scope and space for political activities and groupism in the corporation, he has said.

Addressing a press conference at Secretariat on Tuesday, Mr. Anand Surya said that he was working with dedication and in coordination with the officials for development of the Brahmin community. The beneficiaries of various schemes were being selected purely based on merit. The selection was apolitical and no favoritism was shown to any applicant. The corporation sanctioned ₹59 crore under various schemes to 33,162 beneficiaries during the last fiscal. During last five months, 42,895 applications were received by the corporation. Of this, 10,397 applicants were sanctioned ₹15 crore, he explained.

The government sanctioned ₹75 crore and released ₹56.25 crore for three quarters this financial year so far. The government would release ₹18.75 crore for fourth quarter in January. The corporation was also releasing the funds on quarterly basis like any other government agency. There was no dearth of funds, he asserted.

Stating that the corporation decided to do away with the system of district and constituency coordinators, Mr. Anand Surya said that necessary steps would be taken to decentralise the system and reach out to the poor and genuine beneficiaries.

APBWC director D.V. Syama Rao, general manager Venkata Sastry were also present.
