Foundation stone for the new Agricultural University will be laid on the premises of Regional Agricultural Research Station, Lam on Guntur-Amaravathi Road on June 5, Minister for Agriculture P. Pulla Rao said here on Sunday. The ‘bhoomi puja’ for the Agricultural University will the first in a series of ceremonies in the district. On June 6, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu will perform ‘bhoomi puja’ for the Capital city at Thallayapalem hamlet in Mandadam village followed by ‘bhoomi puja’ for AIIMS at Mangalagiri.
He said development agreements have been signed for 17,000 acres so far and added that the district administration has promised to complete the process by the first week of June.“Land owners are hesitating to sign form 9.14 handing over their land for development after the opposition parties have spread mistrust,'' Mr. Pulla Rao said.
Referring to the university, Mr. Pulla Rao said the Agricultural University would come up on government lands adjacent to the RARS. The university, which though funded by the Centre, would be administered by the State government.
