Bhogapuram airport

Air travellers’ body opposes the proposal

April 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - SRIKAKULAM:

Air Travellers Association of India (AITA) strongly oppose the construction of the Greenfield airport at Bhogapuram saying that it would hardly benefit the backward Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts.

AITA national president D. Varada Reddy, AITA Srikakulam wing president Natukula Mohan are of the opinion that the government is misusing the public property to benefit private operators under the guise of creating facilities for air travellers.

“The government rather expand existing Visakhapatnam airport since the Indian Navy is ready to cooperate for the development,” says Mr. Varada Reddy.

Pvt. operators will put burden of heavy user charges on passengers, while enjoying subsidies being offered by the govt., say AITA members
