Bheemunipatnam MLA M. Srinivasa Rao formally cut a cake to mark the 150th anniversary of Bheemunipatnam Municipality, the second oldest in the country and the first Municipality in the State, at the anniversary celebrations held at Bheemunipatnam on Tuesday.

Former MLA R.S.D.P. Appala Narasimha Raju and Municipal Chairperson G. Chinna Kumari Lakshmi participated in the function. Mr. Srinivasa Rao said that efforts were being made to bring Chief Minister K. Rosaiah for the valedictory function besides trying to rope in Telugu Desam President N. Chandrababu Naidu and Praja Rajyam President K. Chiranjeevi to participate in the anniversary celebrations and thereby focus on the historical importance of the ancient town across the length and breadth of the State.

The MLA said that he was making all out efforts for the development of Bheemunipatnam constituency as a model constituency and appealed for support from all sections and all political parties in this regard. He said that his dream was to transform Bheemunipatnam into a place of tourist importance, to promote spiritual tourism and as a centre for fish exports.
