Better the foot slip than the tongue

December 07, 2014 09:54 pm | Updated 09:54 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Someone perhaps has rightly said: ‘Watch your tongue’. A slip of tongue of a local YSRC leader at a protest programme organised over the farm loan waiver scheme of the State government at the district Collectorate in Eluru landed him in an awkward situation. He addressed former MLA K.V. Nageswara Rao as ‘Former Minister’ on the dais. Soon, Mr. Rao with folded hands, said in a lighter vein: “I would have certainly become a Minister under the Chief Ministership of Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, had the TDP not deceived farmers with its false promises. But, all hope is not lost as I may become a Minister in the next elections with the blessings of all of you.” Soon, the audience burst into laughter.

Kodela’s re-union with old buddies

The recent visit of Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao to release a book ‘A B rief History of India’ written by his classmate V. Sulochana Devi was an occasion to meet several of his classmates. “I had missed a reunion organised in Kurnool Medical College and this is a sort of reunion as about 50 doctors have attended this function,” Dr. Sivaprasada Rao said. Of them, 25 doctors studied in Kurnool Medical College and 12 were his classmates, he informed. The Speaker was felicitated by his classmates. His classmates included former Ministers D.L. Ravindra Reddy, S.A. Khaleel Basha, Chiranjeevi Reddy, Bharathi, author of the book V. Sulochana Devi and her husband Putha Bali Reddy.

An offer to remember!

YSRC MLA Bhuma Nagireddy (Nandyal) claims that his daughter Akhila Priya has got an offer from the TDP to contest on the party ticket from Allagadda. Addressing a recent protest meeting at the Collectorate in Kurnool, Mr. Reddy said that the ruling party even had offered a Ministerial berth, if his daughter contested as a TDP candidate from Allagadda, which fell vacant on account of the death of her mother Sobha Nagireddy. Mr. Nagi Reddy criticised the TDP government for opening a rowdy sheet against him in Nandyal police station for his alleged role in getting municipal councillors thrashed by goons. Mr. Nagireddy is also facing multiple cases including charges under SC, ST Atrocities (prevention) Act.

A tale of a ‘sidekick’

The recent comments of Andhra Pradesh Communications Advisor Parakala Prabhakar on YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy not only attracted criticism from that party cadre, but also drew funny comments on his current position in the State government. Recollecting his childhood days, Chandragiri legislator and Estimates Committee member Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy compared Mr. Prabhakar to a character playing sidekick in Telugu film Muthyala Muggu , who always tries to floor Rao Gopala Rao with his sweet-talk. “It seems Mr. Prabhakar is desperate to woo N. Chandrababu Naidu even if it means making irrelevant statements”, he said. The MLA advised Mr. Prabhakar to behave responsibly in tune with his elevated position in the government.
