Bees at Vijay Vihar send officials into a tizzy

A swarm of bees at Vijay Vihar, the guest house of the AP Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) near Nagarjunasagar reservoir in Nalgonda district, on Sunday morning sent officials into a tizzy for a while.

The incident took place minutes before the arrival of a group of delegates who attended the just-concluded 25 Joint Meeting of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) Commissions for East Asia & the Pacific and South Asia here.

The officials, including those from the State’s Department of Tourism, the APTDC, Irrigation and Police departments, were waiting at the guest house to welcome the delegation.

The guests included heads of Tourism Ministries/Departments and UNWTO officials. When contacted, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Miryalguda), D. Kavitha said that since Saturday evening there was a strong posse of police on duty at the guest house.

“This morning, we were all waiting. One of the constables from Vemulapally police station was stationed under a tree that had a bee hive. All the movement apparently disturbed the bees and a few of them stung him. We shifted him to a nearby hospital and his condition is fine now,” she said.

Order was restored in time to receive the guests.
