The National Commission for Backward Classes Bill, which has been passed in the Lok Sabha and is awaiting the assent of the Rajya Sabha, will be a reality soon, BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav has said.
“We will get it passed by the end of 2017,” Mr. Madhav said amid applause at the party’s Other Backward Classes (OBC) convention here on Sunday. “The Bill is meant to provide constitutional status to the Commission and is touted as historic in ensuring the uplift of the Backward Classes,” he said, and blamed the Opposition for throwing a spanner in the Centre’s efforts in this direction.
Even while honouring the “coalition dharma” Mr. Madhav said the party was on a “growth trajectory”. He attributed the weak indicators in the State’s GDP to the backwardness among the OBCs, and stressed the need to reach out to them. Mr. Madhav pointed out that schemes such as Jan Dhan, MUDRA, Stand-Up India and Startup India would help bring society several rungs up.
OBC Morcha State president J. Madhusudhan introduced the leaders from Sullurpet, Tirupati, and Madanapalle constituencies who joined the BJP in Mr. Madhav’s presence.
