The three IIITs at Idupulapaya in Kadapa district, Basara in Adilabad district and Nuzvid in Krishna district, instituted in 2008 to cater to the educational needs of rural youth, have been granted autonomous status, Prof. Y. Krishna Reddy, Advisor to the Prof. D. Raj Reddy, Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT), said at Vempalle.

RGUKT Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor R.V. Raja Kumar, Registrar Karnati Somaiah and governing council members held elaborate discussions and issued orders granting administrative, academic and financial autonomy to the three IIITs with effect from August 16. The IIITs would function autonomously and take appropriate decisions despite being under the university’s purview, Prof. Krishna Reddy told newsmen at Idupulapaya IIIT.

Orders were issued appointing K. Venugopal Reddy as in charge Director, K.L.N. Reddy as Financial Officer, Viswanatha Reddy as Administrative Officer, Prabhakar Reddy as Dean of Student Welfare and D.V. Rao as NSS Coordinator of IIIT, Idupulapaya.

Gold medals

Thirteen students of the IIIT at Idupulapaya bagged gold medals in RGUKT’s first convocation held at Hyderabad recently and a student of IIIT, Nuzvid, bagged one gold medal, he said. Students who passed but owed fee arrears would be given the convocation certificate at RGUKT campus at Gachibowli in Hyderabad on clearance of the dues, Prof. Krishna Reddy said.

RGUKT was started as a full-fledged university by the State government in March 2008 by an Act of the State Legislature. The first batch of 6,500 students passing SSC had been admitted into a six-year integrated B. Tech course (a two-year pre-university course equivalent to Intermediate and four-year engineering course) in August 2008 in the three IIITs.
