May 29, 2014 09:40 pm | Updated July 24, 2016 03:09 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

A nondescript village Bapulapadu near Hanuman Junction could be the location for construction of Cyberabad of Seemandhra, according to sources in the TDP and the IT industry. .

“There is over 1,000 acre of forest and government land available for the new city. It will house a Hi-tech City besides residential and commercial infrastructure of a global stature,” said the source associated with the IT industry and TDP leadership. A senior TDP leader from Vijayawada too hinted at similar developments in the area which is 40 k.m. from Vijayawada towards Gannavaram airport. The new city will be a planned one with defined connecting roads and infrastructure to meet future needs, according to him.

Meanwhile, the core team of the Chief Minister-designate N. Chandrababu Naidu has already kept a plan ready to expedite the execution of the project as soon as he is sworn in on June 8. “Most of the plans are fixed. Calling Expression of Interest (EOI) will be the first thing we can expect after Mr. Naidu takes over as the Chief Minister. The L1 players will be identified and actual construction will start within three to six months,” said a senior bureaucrat who is closely associated with the project.

The construction majors too are gearing up to grab opportunities in the new entity that is taking shape. For instance, L&T, which had built the Hi-Tec City in Hyderabad, is actively evaluating the business opportunities in the new region. Speaking to The Hindu , L&T Metrorail CEO, V.B. Gadgil said: “L&T will take up all possible construction opportunities in residual Andhra Pradesh.” Mr. Gadgil, who was heading the construction division of L&T, was instrumental in the construction of Cyber Towers in Hyderabad.
