Andhra Bank Executive Director S.K. Kalara on Friday expressed concern over the nationalised banks coming under attack by a section of aggrieved farmers during the implementation of loan waiver scheme.
Speaking to the media after inaugurating a new branch of Andhra Bank at Narsaiah Agraharam here, he said that it was not fair on anybody’s part to blame banks for errors in preparing the list of beneficiaries and delay in the implementation of the scheme.
He said this referring to the protests by farmers leading to laying siege to banks in Guntur and Nellore districts holding the bankers responsible for the tardy progress in extending debt waiver benefits. “It is a stupendous task to prepare the list of beneficiaries which runs into lakhs and it is the responsibility of the government to accomplish the task, not the bankers,” he observed. Andhra Bank DGM D. Nagaraja Naidu said with the new branch in Bhimavaram, the number of Andra Bank’s branches reached 104 in the district.
