YSR Congress has said the rejection of bail for its leader Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy would not have any impact and the party’s honorary president, Y.S. Vijayamma and Y.S. Sharmila would continue with their mass contact programmes with the people.
A senior leader of the party, D.A. Somayajulu pointed out that Mr. Jagan was arrested a year ago and his remaining in the jail did not make any difference in the by-elections as the party had won Assembly and Nellore Lok Sabha seats. He said that a large number of factors would decide the outcome of elections and not only the presence or absence of a party leader.
He said the voters have already made up their mind and people know that Mr. Jagan was being “harassed”.
Meanwhile, in a statement Ms. Vijayamma said although the rejection of bail had disappointed party leaders and activists, YSR Congress would continue fighting on behalf of people with renewed vigour and determination under the direction of Mr. Jagan. She appealed to the party leaders, cadre and people to keep their composure and not to be disheartened.
Asserting that the party was confident of achieving complete majority and forming the government after the next elections, she challenged both Congress and TDP to disqualify the 18 TDP and Congress MLAs, who had defied their respective whips during the recent no-trust vote.
‘Ready to face polls’
She said YSR Congress was ready to face the by-polls, local body polls and the Assembly elections at any point of time.
