Back-to-back polls in Chittoor put parties on edge

March 18, 2014 10:09 am | Updated November 16, 2021 09:25 pm IST - CHITTOOR:

The politically sensitive tail-end Chittoor district is gearing up for the Mandal Parishad and Zilla Parishad elections, for which election notification was out on Monday for 901 MPTCs and 65 ZPTCs with polling scheduled in two phases.

The hectic political activity for the mandal and zilla parishads has unnerved the various political parties, who have launched search for the candidates for the territorial constituencies.

Despite tight schedule for multiple elections from municipalities to general elections, the present elections to the territorial bodies assumed much political significance, and are considered the “semi finals” to the general elections. The political parties have intensified their activity, judiciously allocating time for the campaign of both the municipal and territorial polls.

The conduct of ZP elections on party symbols came as a big relief to the parties. The YSRC cadres too are in a jubilant mood with confirming of their party symbol “fan” to the contesting candidates. Candidates of Kiran Kumar Reddy’s new political outfit Jai Samaikhyandra Party are perturbed with non-allocation of the party symbol “footwear”. With elections to the assembly and parliament coming up in May, the parties are leaving no stone unturned to ensure victory polls to local bodies.
