October 17, 2013 02:50 am | Updated November 17, 2021 12:46 am IST - ELURU:

A two-year-old baby was allegedly killed and two persons sustained injuries as two tribal groups of the CPI(M) and the YSRC clashed over sharing of yield from a 20-acre mango orchard, at Dibbagudem in West Godavari district on Tuesday night.

Even as the CPI (M) lodged a complaint with the police over the baby’s death, Jangareddygudem CI P. Muraliramakrishna said it was a false claim. Although the baby died of ill-health, her parents made a false complaint under pressure from village elders belonging to the CPI(M), he told The Hindu . CPI (M) mandal secretary Mohan, however, said the baby was killed in a stampede that ensued in the group clash and the body was buried without any post-mortem examination under threats from the YSRC. The police registered a case against four CPI (M) workers in connection with the clash. However, a group of the CPI (M) activists lodged a counter complaint against the YSRC.
