The Chittoor traffic police and transport department on Sunday organised an awareness drive for school and college bus drivers, and principals. This was followed by sticking of radium stickers on over 200 vehicles. The event was held at the PVKN Government Degree college grounds here.
Additional SP (Special Operations) V. Ratna and Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic) K. Kesappa launched the drive by sticking radium stickers on school vehicles, and inspecting their running condition.
Later, addressing the gathering of school principals and correspondents on the college premises, the ASP said that Superintendent of Police Ghattamaneni Srinivas took the lead in arranging the special drive for safety measures on school buses with the joint participation of the traffic and transport wings.
The DSP made a Power Point presentation regarding traffic awareness and safety measures for the drivers.
Mr. Kesappa said that the school managements should take extra precautions while picking up the schoolchildren from their residential locations and again dropping them. “The drivers and cleaners should be careful and properly guide the schoolchildren while they cross the roads after alighting from the buses. Rash driving and over speeding should be completely avoided. Fitness certificates have to be obtained for the vehicles every year. All the school buses should be properly fitted with grills, fire fighting equipment, first aid kits and emergency exits,” he said.
The DSP cautioned the school managements not to engage the services of drivers and cleaners addicted to liquor. Regional Transport Officer Ch. V. Subba Rao, Motor Vehicle Inspector Ravindra Kumar spoke on the occasion.
