Auto driver arrested on charge of murdering girl

Masthan, 40, an autorickshaw driver, was charged with murdering a college girl, Jayanthi, after allegedly cheating her into marrying him under the Buchireddypalem police station limits in Nellore district here.

The incident came to light late owing to lack of immediate evidence, even as the police cracked the case based on the call data verification and subsequent enquiries.

Police sources said that the auto driver allegedly trapped Jayanthi, an MCA student, who used to travel to her college in Masthan’s auto from her native Kattubadipalem village, near Buchireddypalem mandal headquarters town.

Around December last year, Masthan took Jayanthi to Tirupati where they got married. Later, in the name of visiting a friend’s family in Adilabad, he took her there.

After that, the whereabouts of the girl were not known, and her parents lodged a complaint with the police.

Missing person case

A missing person case was registered at Buchireddypalem even as another case was booked around the same time in Adilabad district about the suspicious death of an unidentified girl in January first week.

In the police investigation, the Buchireddypalem police traced the call data of the girl, based on which the auto driver’s involvement was unearthed. Masthan was stated to have taken the help of a friend to allegedly kill the girl to rob her of jewellery and money.
