The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) MLAs and leaders condemned the attack of Congress MP V. Hanumantha Rao at Tirupathi by Seemandhra activists on Saturday.
TRS MLAs – T. Rajaiah, M. Bikshapathi and D. Vinay Bhaskar and Kadiam Srihari and T. Ravinder Rao described the act as brutal. Never were Andhra or Rayalaseema leaders ever attacked physically by the TRS cadre or separate Telangana activists in the State. The Seemandhra activists were hatching a conspiracy to create a law and order problem and thus slow down the process of formation of Telangana State, they alleged.
The TRS leaders held the Chief Minister and the DGP responsible for the act and sought an explanation from them. They also demanded an answer from Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, TDP leader N. Chandrababu Naidu and YSR Congress leader Y.S. Vijayamma on the attack.
The TRS activists would not attack anybody but would remain calm despite the provocations, they said. The Telangana region leaders of the TDP and the Congress should come out of their parties in protest, they said. “The leaders of both the parties are dreaming to become Chief Minister of separate Telangana while the Seemandhra leaders are trying to block the very process,” Mr. Kadiam Srihari said. He advised the leaders of Telangana to be alert as the Seemandhra leaders were trying to bargain for more than their due share in water and natural resources in name of justice.
Karimnagar Staff Reporter writes: Strongly condemning the attack Mr. Hanumantha Rao in Tirupati by Seemandhra agitationists, Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar urged the Union government to appoint a non-resident of A.P. as the DGP to maintain law and order in the State.
MPs to meet PM
Alleging that the DGP, V. Dinesh Reddy, who hailed from Seemandhra region, was lackadaisical in controlling the violent and undemocratic acts of agitationists, he said that the MPs would meet the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister on Monday and seek his the replacement for the maintenance of law and order in the State.
Talking to newsmen, Mr. Prabhakar said that the attack on Mr. Hanumantha Rao was an attack on all Telangana people. Launching a scathing attack on the State police machinery for remaining silent, he recalled that the police had suppressed the Telangana movement and had even lodged MPs and others in jail, whereas in the Seemandhra region, they remained mute spectators to violent acts, he charged.
