Women activists of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) district unit led a protest programme called “Vanta Vaarpu” wherein they cooked food on the road at Nartaki Centre here on Sunday to highlight the plight of women due to spiralling prices of essential commodities.

The women leaders demanded that the Central Government immediately roll back the prices of diesel and withdraw the ration on subsidised LPG refills so that the average middle class woman would not bear its unbearable burden. Addressing the participants in the protest programme, TDP district president Anchala Vani and former mayor T. Anuradha said that under the Congress government, common people were unable to lead their lives comfortably in view of unchecked price rise. If the diesel price hike was not immediately withdrawn, it would have a serious impact on the lives of people, they said. The TDP women activists brought vessels, vegetables and cooking material and continued their protest on the road till afternoon.
