17 doctors of RIMS found absent during Collector's surprise visit
District Collector V. Anil Kumar initiated action on Saturday against 17 doctors of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Kadapa for unauthorised absenteeism by directing RIMS Director L.C. Obulesu to cut a day's salary and serve show cause notices on them.
The Collector who undertook a surprise inspection of RIMS hospital, inspected the attendance register and marked absent for 17doctors. Mr. Anil Kumar pulled up RIMS Director and Resident Medical Officer Sureshwar Reddy asking them to act tough to ensure that doctors attended duties regularly.
Poser to doctors
He asked doctors, who were in a noble profession, to ponder if they needed monitoring of their functioning by other officials.
He expressed ire on ascertaining that some doctors affixed signatures for the next day in the attendance registers, signing attendance by proxy for three to four days at a stretch without submitting leave letters. The Collector said he as well as other senior officials would frequently inspect RIMS Hospital, even during nights.
Mr. Anil Kumar wrote in the attendance register directing issue of a show-cause notice to Physiotherapist Sampath Kumar for unauthorised absence since 50 days and to write to senior officials concerned for stern departmental action. He assured vigilance raids and inquiries when some patients complained against the staff demanding money from them. All the doctors should be punctual and leave the hospital only after the duty hours, he said. The Collector went round the paediatric, gynaecology, intensive care unit, surgical, male general and labour wards, blood sample collection centre, kitchen, ECG and radiology wing, sterilisation ward etc. He enquired with patients about the treatment being given, nursing services and food being supplied to patients.
