It was supposed to be a welcome arch but it proved to be an ‘invitation to death’ for B. Prudhivisena Reddy. He became an unlikely victim when the arch erected for the just concluded Metropolis conference crashed, killing him on the spot at Gachibowli on Sunday.

While the 29-year-old man died, two others sustained injuries in the incident. The condition of one of the injured is stated to be critical, the police stated.

Prudhivisena Reddy of Kukatpally, working as a housekeeping supervisor at a software company at Nanakramguda, was going on a bike towards Hitec city when the huge iron arch erected near Park Hotel at Gachibowli – Hitec City road collapsed apparently due to winds.

“Around afternoon, the arch fell all of a sudden. Prudhivisena Reddy got trapped under the iron rods. Although locals and police removed the debris and brought him out he died due to the serious head injuries he sustained in the mishap,” Raidurgam SI Ch. Yadendar said.

Two other motorists, Venkatesh Rao and Ravi Prasad, who were passing by on another bike, also got trapped and sustained injuries. They were rushed to a private hospital where they are undergoing treatment.

The incident led to a huge traffic jam on the route. Later, the police summoned a big crane and removed the metal arch. The Raidurgam police registered a case of negligence leading to death, against the GHMC.
