Andhra Pradesh Information Technology Academy (APITA), an autonomous body formed by the government, has improved the skill-set of as many as 16,000 students representing 250 colleges.
Almost 6,000 underwent training in various emerging technologies and the remaining in soft skills, aptitude and awareness on industries ever since APITA was formed in June two years ago.
Instead of signing agreements with training institutes, APITA has preferred collaborations between the industry and academia to bridge the gap as the emerging technologies are fast changing.
“We are focussing on improving the knowledge of students, mostly of engineering colleges, in new-age technologies like cyber security, big data, analytics, cloud computing and blockchain technology,” APITA Additional CEO Winny Patro told The Hindu on Sunday. He said that they had tied up with Amazon Web Services through AWS Academy to impart training in cloud computing area after finding that there was dearth of hands in maintenance of cloud computing.
Mr. Patro said the government had also inked an agreement for partnership with Unity Technologies for training the students in Unity 3D Technology in augmented and virtual reality of 3D objects.
He said Unity Technologies was focussing on India and the MoU signed with it is first of its kind in the world to produce job-ready professionals.
LEAP launched
Talks were in progress to sign partnership agreements with Alibaba and VMware for development of skills of the students. IBM Bluemix, a cloud platform, has already signed agreement with the State government.
IT Minister Nara Lokesh launched a programme named Look for Employees in AP (LEAP) at Tirupati recently to showcase the high employment quotient of students passing out from the State.
Job fairs
Mr. Patro said at the job fairs conducted at Tirupati, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Anantapur, they could able to provide 5,700 jobs through 180 companies which included big companies like Infosys, Flipkart, Oyo and Paytm. Majority of beneficiaries have completed engineering. The average pay, Mr. Patro said was ₹1.8 lakh and the cost to company per annum ranged from ₹1.25 lakh to ₹9 lakh.
