Apex cancer centre for Kurnool govt. hospital

To be established on a 10-acre stretch with an outlay of Rs. 120 crore

The only apex cancer centre sanctioned by the Central government for Andhra Pradesh will be established on the premises of Kurnool General Hospital (KGH), Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas said on Monday.

The Minister, who slept in the hospital on Sunday night, told the media that the cancer centre would be established on a 10-acre stretch with an outlay of Rs. 120 crore. He promised to develop the hospital by formulating a comprehensive action plan.

The Minister went round the hospital located on a sprawling 120 acres of land in the heart of the city and said new buildings would be built in place of dilapidated buildings by classifying them into four categories. Lauding the greenery on the hospital premises, he suggested development of a park to facilitate its use by the patients and their attendants.

Dr. Kamineni Srinivas went round the MM I, III and IV wards and interacted with patients. He enquired whether medicines were being given under the NTR Arogya Seva scheme and asked doctors about the treatment aspects.

Deputy Chief Minister K.E. Krishnamurthy, A.P. Legislative Council Chairman A. Chakrapani and the Health Minister inaugurated the cardiothoracic surgery centre, established at a cost of Rs. 7 crore, which would help perform open heart and bypass surgeries with modern facilities.

They unveiled plaques to lay the foundation stone for under-graduate, post-graduate and PG family quarters, senior resident quarters and diagnostic centre to be built with an outlay of Rs. 40 lakh.

Kurnool MP Butta Renuka, MLA S.V. Mohan Reddy, former MLA K. Rambhupal Reddy, KGH Superintendent J. Veeraswamy and heads of all departments in the hospital participated.

The Minister, who saw pigs moving on the hospital premises, asked Collector Ch. Vijayamohan to take steps to move the pigs to the outskirts of the town.
