March 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The State government on Tuesday issued orders for setting up the AP Mahila Sadhikara Samstha (APMSS), an empowerment corporation for women, with an aim of alleviating poverty and empowering all poor households in both rural and urban areas.

The corporation, with its headquarters in Vijayawada, would be a wholly-owned enterprise of the government and registered with an authorised capital of Rs. 1 crore, consisting of 10 lakh shares of Rs.10 each, according to a GO issued here.

It would be anchored in the Department of Rural Development, which will be reconfigured as the Department for Empowerment and Poverty Elimination.

The objective of the corporation would be creating an empowered institution that would be responsible for planning, execution and monitoring of welfare, capacity enhancement and allied inputs essential for overall social and economic empowerment and poverty alleviation in rural and urban areas.

It would also support, guide, promote and empower SHGs and their aggregated institutions, including Village Organisations, Mandal and Zilla Samakhyas, slum-level and town-level federations by providing financial and other inputs for development of poor households.

Among others, the corporation would provide inputs to the government for formulation of policies for poverty elimination and woman empowerment.

Further, the corporation would mobilise rural and urban poor to promote new generation institutions.

It would receive policy guidance from the Governing Council comprising Ministers, national and international experts, with the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu as the Chairman.

The government has authorised CEO of the Society for Elimination of Poverty (SERP) to take immediate measures to register APMSS under Section-8 of the Companies Act.
