Andhra Pradesh has sought some amendments to the draft Bill brought out by the Union Government to provide food security to people in the country.
Speaking at the conference of Civil Supplies and Food Ministers of States convened by Union Food Minister K. V. Thomas at Delhi on Wednesday, Civil Supplies Minister D. Sridhar Babu wanted the proposed Food Security Act to be made applicable to all people alike instead of giving “general priority” to some among them. He sought postponement of the grounding the Centre’s Cash Transfer Scheme in Andhra Pradesh on the ground that Aadhaar cards were yet to be issued to some people and completion of this job would take some more time.
Grants sought
He requested for grants to construct additional godowns in the State to store foodgrains as the State Government was implementing subsidised rice scheme etc.
He said the State Government would launch a new scheme from April 11 (Ugadi) to supply nine essential commodities in a single pack monthly just for Rs 187 each to eligible poor families.
