‘A.P. Sangeetha Academy will be restored’

Assembly Deputy Speaker Mandali Buddha Prasad has announced that the State government is going to restore the Andhra Pradesh Sangeetha, Nataka Academy soon and a decision would be taken by the Chief Minister and his Cabinet in the next few weeks.

Addressing a two-day seminar on “Folklore-its protection-conservation” at Adikavi Nannaya University (ANUR) on Friday, Mr. Buddha Prasad said that it was the duty of the State government to protect the folklores as they were slowly disappearing .

“Folklores like puppet shows, Harikatha, Burrakatha and other art forms are gradually disappearing. Now, the time has come to protect, preserve and conserve them,” he said and appealed the government to restore Sangeetha, Nataka Academy .

The Deputy Speaker recalled that the Karnataka government has taken very good initiative in protecting Tulu language and it is the duty of the state governments to protect the languages which are slowly disappearing from the society.

He further added that Madhira Subbanna Deekshitulu who was more popular with his “Kasi majili kathalu” books, Chilakamarti Lakshminarasimha Rao, Tekumall Narasimha Rao and others have taken birth in Rajahmundry only and paid rich tributes to them.

He asked Adikavi Nannaya University to set up a separate chair to take up research on folklores.

Prof. George Victor, the chief guest, said evolution was common in language, community and lifestyle, but it was more important to know about the history and culture of the same.

T. Satyanarayana, convener of the two-day seminar said that the it is being organized with the support of Folklore Society of South Indian Languages (Fossils), Trivendrum and they have received 69 Research Papers from 13 Universities on “Folk literature-protection and conservation”.
