An alert has been sounded on Andhra Pradesh’s borders with Chattisgarh and Orissa in view of the fierce gunbattle between police and naxalites in Dantewada district of Chattisgarh in which six security personnel had been killed.

Police in Khammam and Srikakulam districts have been instructed to keep strict watch on the borders connecting Chattisgarh and Orissa states, a senior police official said.

“We have intensified the patrolling on Andhra—Chattisgarh border after the major incident in Chattisgarh,” Khammam district Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar told PTI over phone.

All the vehicles coming from Chattisgarh were being checked, he said adding that a combing operation had also been in the forest areas near the border.

Srikakulam SP M Naganna said a close vigil was being kept on the state’s border with Orissa to thwart any attempt from Maoists to sneak into Andhra Pradesh.
