A.P. IIIT to be named after Kalam

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced in the State Assembly on Monday that the upcoming Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) at Ongole will be named after former President A P J Abdul Kalam.

Paying glowing tributes during a condolence motion on the death of Kalam, he said that Prathibha Puraskars for meritorious students would also be given in the name of the former President. He announced that his statue would also be installed on the campus of Acharya Nagarjuna University.

He said that Kalam always wanted India to be a leading nation and used to tell youth “dare to dream and strive to achieve”.

Leader of Opposition Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy said that such great men would come once in an era. Minister for Information Technology Palle Raghunatha Reddy, Chand Basha and Venkata Sujay Krishna Ranga Rao (both YSRCP), B. Uma Maheshwara Rao (TDP) also spoke. The Speaker also associated himself with the sentiments expressed by the members.

Later the House observed two-minute silence in memory of the former President.
